2010 Summer Institute
The John C. Stalker Institute of Food and Nutrition is proud to announce the 2010 Summer Institute. This 3-day institute hosted in collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) and the School Nutrition Association (SNA) of Massachusetts will take place August 17-19, 2010 at The Conference Center at Marlborough.
ESE will provide specific programs for new directors on August 17th and special program requirements for all on August 18th and 19th. Dynamic presentations and panel discussions will focus on the hottest issues facing school nutrition professionals today - from partnering with local farms to improve your menus to incorporating social networking into your marketing strategies.

Orientation to School Nutrition Programs (New Directors)

Educational Specialists from MA Department of Elementary & Secondary Education will provide an overview of National School Lunch Program requirements, menu planning approaches, use of standardized recipes, and the new look of USDA Foods.

August 18 and 19

On August 18th
Tony Geraci, Director of Food and Nutrition, Baltimore City Public Schools, will headline the opening session with Transforming Farm to Fork. As a national leader in sustainable food for schools, he was first to spearhead the local food revolution and connect real kids with real food.
Additional sessions will expand farm to fork connections including: Food and Financial Integrity with Farm to School, School Gardens and Cooking from the Garden. Other pertinent and hot topics, such as Perfecting Your Policies and Procedures, Production Records, Pushing the Right Buttons and other policy and computer sessions will help you and your staff address communication and technology issues in your schools.
On August 19th
Tami Cline, Cline Consulting and formerly with School-Link Technologies, will bring you into the next decade with Real World Meets Virtual World and Marketing Your School.
Additional sessions will help you navigate the school nutrition program review process and address food safety issues and procedures. Katie Millett, Director, Office for Nutrition Health and Safety Programs, MA Department of Elementary & Secondary Education will conclude with an update on breaking child nutrition issues and activities at state and national levels.
